Hyundai’s best-selling sedan returns this year, the 2013 Hyundai Elantra. There is just one powertrain for the 2013 Elantra, a 1.8L engine that produces 148hp, 131 lbs. of torque at a fuel rating of 29 mpg city/40 mpg highway. While engine displacement was lessened this year, Hyundai was also able to lessen the weight by 60 lbs. thru some changes in the body and engine technology.  The 2013 Hyundai Elantra is available in either sedan or hatchback. Trunk space for the sedan is at 14.8 ft3, while for the hatchback it is at 23 ft3 which can be expanded even further to 51 ft3by folding the rear seats. Passenger room for the Elantra is okay up front, but tall passengers may find it difficult at the rear seats.

Two trims are available for the 2013 Elantra -GLS and Limited. All Elantra models get these features- heated mirrors, full power accessories, adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, a trip computer, a 6-speaker sound system w/ CD player, satellite radio, auxiliary audio jack and iPod/USB interface.

On the Limited trim, you get other features like leather upholstery, powered and heated seats, and a sunroof. Other optional features include a touch-screen navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and an upgraded audio system.

The 2013 Hyundai Elantra received excellent safety ratings, scoring great in frontal and side impact tests and also in the roof strength test. Standard safety features include front seat side impact and side curtain airbags, antilock disc brakes with brake assist, steering effort assist system, stability/traction control, emergency trunk release, daytime running lights and a rearview camera. What’s great with these is some of these standard safety features come optional in other car models.

Critics love its cargo space and the abundance of interior features, especially on the safety aspect. Performance is one where the 2013 Hyundai Elantra will be challenged, by cars like the Mazda3 and the Subaru Impreza who have better handling and more power.
